Sometimes teeth suffer injuries, lose their natural white color, or too wide gaps between teeth are present. These esthetic defects are safe for the health but do create some discomfort. In such cases we invite patients to visit a dentist, as today’s medicine offers a number of options.
Artistic dental restoration
We all realize that conventional fillings are long gone with the advent of esthetic restoration, whereby a damaged or missing tooth is restored completely using up-to-date high-tech materials, its new shape being modified for more natural and esthetic look, rather than replicating the baseline shape.
Revolutionary technologies and unlimited capacities of today’s materials enable to imitate ideally live dental tissues. Currently the most advanced technology is based on nano-composites – micro-particle containing photo-polymer materials, which ensure high saturation, and therefore reliability, firmness, outstanding esthetic properties and natural shining.
Every case of dental restoration is unique. Often more than one specialist takes part. Restoration can be performed within the oral cavity in one visit – this is called direct restoration, or in stages, using indirect restoration (inlays), which are modelled by a technician in the lab (micro-prosthetic treatment). Duration of this procedure depends on the area and degree of tissue destruction, as determined by the dentist during examination.
Be careful, as improper restoration may fall out and even lead to joint and gingival problems.
Veneers
Veneers are thin ceramic plates fixed to the outer surface of a tooth. Being no thicker than cardboard, veneers do not require significant removal of enamel. This type of restoration is only efficient if the color or shape of teeth is to be corrected, or gaps between teeth are to be closed.
Veneers require minimum intervention with your teeth, limited only to 0.5 mm, and the teeth being restored are natural.
Tooth whitening
In contract to professional cleaning, whitening makes the teeth lighter using professional products. The procedure removes dyes causing discoloration of teeth. Darkening of teeth is caused by coffee, tea, soya, red wine, blackberries, ketchup. Smoking is another source of dark discoloration. Brightness of a smile is significantly affected by tooth color, therefore at our clinic we frequently perform teeth whitening.
It is wrong to assume that whitening jellies damage dental enamel.
Professional whitening is an in-office procedure, because it is performed under doctor’s control. The procedure is simple: teeth are treated several times with a whitening jelly. It is followed by application of protective medications. Patients are advised to avoid foods, which affect the color of teeth. It is important that professional teeth whitening is preceded by consultation, assessment, and discussion of the outcome of whitening. The effect of professional whitening depends on the initial state of teeth.
